A perspective that can aid in effective AI evaluation, adoption and reduce staffing concerns
As I read AI is Just Someone Else’s Intelligence an inkling of new thought crept in to my mind. My first response was "Yes, and...".
"Yes, and..." is a powerful tool used in improv and I've found it to be extremely useful when new technologies gain mind share and wildfire like growth in business. As both the opportunities and threats for the rapidly evolving AI space continue to grow I am finding that a "Yes, and..." approach when investigating AI is critical. This "yes, and..." approach encourages discovery regarding both the opportunities and the threats, real or perceived, regarding AI. By encouraging this discovery we have a greater opportunity to capitalize on the opportunities and effectively manage the threats/risks.
Which brings me back to the blog headline "AI is Just Someone Else's Intelligence"; this combined with a "Yes, and..." approach almost immediately reduces some of the more sky is falling concerns expressed regarding AI. And, this headline perspective also provides a tech independent approach to evaluating the opportunities regarding AI.
By thinking of any AI as another person's intelligence technologists, managers and executives can immediately apply tools they have for assessing all manner of new growth opportunities:
- Am I hiring the right intelligence (experience, skills, capabilities) for the roles I need to grow market share, revenue?
- Is the intelligence I'm evaluating to grow market share, and revenue a good cultural fit for the organization?
- How will this new participant in growing market share and revenue use the knowledge it gains regarding our organization, our IP and our trade secrets?
- How will this new participant evolve their intelligence over time and will that growth in experience, skills, capabilities, etc benefit the organization?
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list for assessing the use of AI within any specific company. Rather this is the beginnings of a simplified framework for effectively assessing the opportunity and fit for AI to grow your business and to simplify ways in which you can evaluate risk using the same tools we always have when assessing and hiring new colleagues to aid in growing our business.
